‘Announce time-frame to develop Ramayapatnam port’

The Centre’s announcement on the Dugarajapatnam major port in Nellore district a few days ago has triggered fears among the people here with the Joint Action Committee (JAC) representatives blaming it on the failure on part of the local people’s representatives.

The JAC leaders expressed concern that while the neighbouring district’s leaders could put pressure on the Centre to eventually get Dugarajapatnam port, the leaders of Prakasam district could not do anything with regard to their port. A Central team, which inspected three locations in AP in the past, finally selected Ramayapatnam for developing the port. At that time, the team also inspected Dugarajapatnam which was not selected eventually.

After the latest announcement, Congress MP Chinta Mohan said that the Dugarajapatnam port was going to be a major port which would be developed in over 5,000 acres. Following these announcements, the JAC leaders of Prakasam district started blaming the local representatives here.

JAC co-convener Rayapati Jagadeesh came down heavily on the people’s representatives of Prakasam district for failing to bring pressure on the Centre. He led several activists in burning the effigies of some leaders to register their protest against the Centre’s stand with regard to Ramayapatnam port.

Mr. Jagadeesh called upon the people here to join the struggle for bringing pressure on the Government to announce a time frame for the development of the Ramayapatnam port.
