AMARAVATI: The abrupt stalling of capital city works in Amaravati seems to have had a negative effect in other parts of the state. It has been learnt that farmers are not allowing officials to carry out preliminary field survey to identify land required for different projects.
In the last few days, field survey for YSR Palnadu drought mitigation project and Ramayapatnam port have been stalled due to farmers’ resistance.
Revenue officials were forced to wind up grama sabhas with farmers in Pedakurapadu and Sattenapalle constituencies following protests. When officials tried to convince them about the need to take up the drought mitigation project, the farmers made it clear that they will not part with their lands unless the district administration comes up with details of compensation to be paid to them.
The farmers, sources said, are not only demanding high compensation than the proposed sum offered by the government, but also want the entire amount to be remitted before allowing officials to take over the land. “We know what happened with Amaravati farmers. We can’t take any chances now,” said N Varaprasad, a farmer from Pedakurapadu.
The district administration has proposed to take over around 1,400 acres for the drought mitigation project to supply drinking and irrigation water in Macherla, Gurazala, Sattenapalle, Pedakurapadu, Narasaraopet and Vinukonda.
Similarly, farmers in Kandukur are also protesting against the land acquisition proposal by the district administration for the Ramayapatnam port. The government is planning to acquire 2,000 acres in Prakasam and Nellore districts to develop both the port and the industrial corridor.
